The Shadow Creature project

I want to create a dancing shadow which you can project onto a wall, and which can dance with you, to combat loneliness.

We used posenet to upload our ‘creatures’ which then try to dance with you! They are meant to map themselves exactly to your movements, but fail and in that sense, are creating their own dances

Just like a monkey, I've been dancin’ my whole life

But you just beg to see me dance just one more time

This was a Covid 19 art project. Covid 19 made it happen and Covid 19 got in the way of it happening.

Maybe the San Franciscan hackathon was never going to be online? Had not COVID forced it online-

Maybe I would be too busy with the first exhibitions of my ORGANIC art and would not have time to experiment in new technology- and would never have gotten involved in an arena where I was a BEGINNER-

Maybe my collaborator and I would never have gotten involved with a transcontinental art project if COVID had not rendered almost all interaction online, meaning that distance became meaningless

I was inspired by dance, wanting to take it to a next technological level where my ideas and imagination would find space to showcase themselves alongside my ‘enthusiastic’ dancing -where I would not care who thought I was ugly or beautiful because instead I would be technological -

Maybe it was the frantic energy from the fear of dying that meant I just did not have it in me to give up on this project.
